About
We are a cultural arts organization that provides educational programming for youth and the broader community. Capoeira was a persecuted Afro-Brazilian cultural expression and is protected by UNESCO today as intangible cultural heritage. It promotes social integration and the memory of resistance to historical oppression through its various songs and folklore. Roots provides free after school Capoeira classes in which youth gain confidence, self-expression and resilience as they learn Capoeira. Through all of our youth, adult, and community classes and workshops, people gain intercultural understanding, acceptance and pride in their own cultural differences and appreciation and understanding others. We have provided over 1,000 hours of cultural arts programs for youth and adults. We have also participated in many community multicultural nights, school workshops, and arts integration projects.
